Seminar on various Unani dosage Forms

Inamdar Unani Medical College and Hospital 2nd proff. Students for the academic year 2024-25 from the Department of Ilmul Saidla wa Murakkabat recently conducted a seminar on various Unani dosage forms, highlighting the rich tradition of Unani medicine. Ilmul Saidla, a crucial branch of Unani System of Medicine, deals with the comprehensive understanding of drugs, including identification, procurement, processing, preparation, and therapeutic applications.

Unani Dosage Forms Discussed:

  • Semi-Solid Dosage Forms:
    • Majuns (semisolid preparations made with honey or sugar)
  • Liquid Dosage Forms:
    • Arqiyat (ark)
    • Sharbat (syrups)
    • Sikanjabeen (vinegars)
  • Other Dosage Forms:
    • Itrifal (a formulation with three fruits: Halila, Terminalia Chebula, and Amla)
    • Jawarishat (powder mixed with water)
    • Laooq (linctus or tincture)
    • Khamiray (a mixture of paste made from decoction with white sugar and allowed to fermentation by special techniques)

The seminar likely explored the naming, chief ingredient , ingredients, preparation methods, indication, therapeutic uses and dosage of different Unani compound formulations. It also emphasizing their significance in traditional medicine. Research in Ilmul Saidla focuses on modifying dosage forms, standardizing single drugs and compound formulations, and scientifically validating procedures like detoxification.

Students have actively participated and are enthusiastic to learn and discuss the topic well. Students contribution was appreciated ,as to remember every compound they have made pneumonic and poetry presentation in a unique way.
